Airlines have raised fares an average of 20% since the war in the Middle East began — and even if a U.S.-Iran deal brings fuel costs down, don't expect airfares to drop. Airlines Reporter Meghna Maharishi notes that carriers plan to hold onto their pricing power, citing strong demand and fewer competitors. Jet fuel has fallen from a peak of $4.88 a gallon in April to $2.79 — but Delta CEO Ed Bastian expects fuel costs will still run higher this year than last.
