Delta is repackaging — “unbundling” is the industry term — its business class fares to make them more attractive to a broader passenger base.
For example, with Basic Business, passengers get Zone 1 boarding and a lie-flat seat, but no advanced seat selection.
“This expansion gives customers more ways to choose the Delta experience that best fits their trip, and a new way to access our premium tier products,” Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Joe Esposito said.
Basic economy was a success when major airlines adopted it to combat the inroads of the low-cost carriers. Will a broader passenger set, including unmanaged business travelers, bite at Basic Business?

At Skift Global Forum, the leaders running those playbooks take the stage, from Air Canada's EVP of revenue and network planning to the CEOs of Virgin Atlantic, Hilton, and Booking Holdings.
