I spent much of this past week in Los Angeles, surrounded by palm trees, ocean waves, and planes taking off at LAX. United Airlines hosted an event in the city to debut its new aircraft and interiors, which all contain even more premium seats. And the carrier’s Boeing 787-9s will soon feature seats in economy that turn into a bed, known as the “Relax Row.”
Similar to what we’ve been hearing from other airline executives, United was once again very optimistic in its outlook, despite the Iran War spiking fuel prices. CEO Scott Kirby said to reporters in LA that he believed airfares would have to increase 20% to offset fuel costs, but that the carrier was in a stronger position than its rivals.
“I think a world where the economy is weaker and maybe some people trade down, the brand loyal airlines are going to win even more,” Kirby said.

Africa’s tourism outlook is improving as air access and traveler interest continue to expand. For investors and global travel brands, the question is no longer whether the sector can deploy capital effectively, but whether delay itself now carries the greater risk.
