Kayak Trips already consolidates bookings, connects to emails, and sends flight alerts. So why did Booking Holdings build another trip manager? According to Vayo, which launched Wednesday in private beta, the difference is what happens next. The platform builds a profile of how you travel, then watches for price changes and gaps and flags when one change puts a check-in or dinner at risk. Trip versus task, proactive versus reactive. Booking plans to invest $100 million in the new business.

It’s the parent company’s second AI startup to see the light of day in recent weeks, following the launch of Lola, its membership-based assistant focused on everyday experiences. Vayo isn’t fully baked yet — OpenTable works inline now, but things like travel booking and multi-user trip sharing are weeks away. But what it already offers is a new space to test and learn what works in user experiences, personalization, and new business models without messing with Booking.com, Priceline, Agoda, and Kayak. If it strikes gold, however, expect those lessons to play out there as well.

Booking already has tools that organize trips. Vayo's proposition is that AI can turn the itinerary into something more: a system that learns how you travel, watches the entire trip, and starts working before you ask.

In this clip from Good Morning Hospitality, A Skift Podcast, Brandreth and Jamie Lane get real about where AI trip planning actually stands right now and why for people who genuinely enjoy the travel planning process it is still not quite there yet.
